Ready for your first ride

  1. Open in Chrome or Edge on your Windows computer. Bluetooth pairing requires a supported browser. Keep this tab open while riding. Recording continues when you switch tabs or apps.
  2. Wake your bike or trainer and connect. Connect a bike, trainer or power meter that broadcasts standard cycling power or FTMS indoor-bike power over Bluetooth. For ANT+, run the Windows companion and select Connect ANT+. Pair a Bluetooth heart rate belt separately. Resistance stays under your control.
  3. Pick or import a route. Choose a city from the catalogue and select a ready-to-ride course. Use your own GPX to add more courses. Imported GPX files stay in this browser.
  4. Ride, finish, export. Download the FIT file and upload it to Strava. It is marked as virtual cycling. Check that Strava recognises Virtual Ride and retains the map; do not apply the Indoor Cycling tag. Automatic posting is not connected.

Virtual speed uses a simple no-wind, solo-rider model with inertia and downhill coasting: rider weight plus a 10 kg bike, rolling resistance and aerodynamic drag. Measured watts drive virtual speed. Height scales a typical road-riding aerodynamic drag estimate; weight affects climbing, rolling resistance and acceleration. This is a general simulation, not Zwift’s exact model. Imported elevations affect grade. This simplified model follows the gravity, rolling resistance and drag approach in Martin et al. (1998).
